Even just approaching Sarah Dinwiddy’s beautiful home you can tell the inside is going to be special. Her look combines an innate sense of style, clever tricks, and plenty of beautiful, seasonal flowers supplied by London florists Whispers & Snippets
No surprise, then, that The English Home snapped up this property, which was photographed by Colin Poole.
One of the joys of this job is getting to interview writers whose books you adore. And so it happened with September’s Hampshire Life, where they asked me to interview Matt Arlidge – better known as the creator of D I Helen Grace. He kindly revealed just why these grisly books are set in Southampton and the New Forest AND he’s given a few hints as to what’s coming next…
Visiting Sam’s beautiful barge at its Little Venice mooring for this shoot was one of my ‘house highlights’ of the summer. She’s transformed it from a floating family home into a chic bolt-hole which was featured as Renovation of the Year in October’s House Beautiful magazine.
Just what kind of publicity you can engender for you or your client’s business by getting their home in a magazine? I think today’s Daily Mail is a very good example. The original piece on Samantha Cameron’s Cotswolds home appeared in Harpers. But the Daily Mail have kindly tracked down the items shown – many of which would appear to have come from Samantha’s mother’s company. If you’d like to find out more about getting your client’s home in a magazine and what it entails, please message me – I’ve been doing this for people for more than 20 years!
I spotted Karen’s blog The White Approach while researching something else and was knocked out by everything she has achieved – on an unashamed shoestring – in her beautiful Exeter home. Her philosophy is that you can transform anything with the colour white, which you can read about here: Ideal Home Karen Jones After seeing her stunning home, I have to agree!
I came across Julie Stevens’ wonderful brocante store, Grey To Green Home, at a Dorset emporium when I was on my way to another interview. After tracking her down (and buying one of her oyster baskets), I persuaded her to let me write about her home. There is something about her way of putting a look together that I can’t help but admire. Books in jars shouldn’t work – but they do. And how.
When I was asked by Hampshire Life if I’d like to interview Joanna Trollope prior to her appearance at the Winchester Festival, I nearly bit their hand off. She gave me the most wonderful interview, and has the kind of voice you could listen to all day. You can read the piece here: Hampshire Life Trollope
This issue also features my interview with Matt Tomkinson, Head Chef at The Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu. Matt is a Roux Scholar and the world’s politest man but even he had a ‘Gordon Ramsey’ moment on finding out he’d been awarded this prestigious prize!
