BBC Homes & Antiques

This is one of my favourite magazines to write for and I was delighted to be asked to contribute to their  ‘101 Brilliant Courses You’ll Love’ which appears in the February 2013 issue. I highlighted a number of courses, from rocking-horse carving, to basket weaving, but the one which captured my attention was stone carving at the Burngate Stone Centre on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. I learned to carve on a day-course in their warm studio, although you can work outdoors in the good weather, with views across the countryside to the Solent. I’d thoroughly recommend it, if you’re looking for something more unusual to try. Watching the sparks fly from a piece of Purbeck stone is extremely satisfying!
